Esperance Anglican Community School is already seeing the benefits of its newly opened Thistle Block, which has quickly become a vibrant and well-utilised hub for learning and community connection since its official opening in September 2025.
The state-of-the-art facility is enhancing student experiences across multiple areas of the school. Food Technology classes, in particular, are thriving in the new environment, with access to expanded workspaces and contemporary equipment that better prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
Esperance’s Food Services Team has also embraced the upgraded commercial kitchen, expanding their offerings for both day and boarding students. With new capabilities at their fingertips, the team has introduced a wider variety of meals, venturing into options that were previously not possible, including freshly made sushi.

Thistle Block is also supporting student wellbeing and community engagement through the School’s breakfast program. The introduction of a breakfast club has created a welcoming space for students and community members alike, building connection while ensuring access to a nutritious start to the day.
Academically, the building is already making its mark. HASS classes are now operating within the new general learning areas.
Beyond the classroom, the facility is easing pressure on existing school facilities. Spacious locker bays, along with a new dining hall and alfresco seating areas, are improving daily life for students. As one student shared, ‘I love the space we now have to sit and enjoy our mealtimes.’
Thistle Block has added a dynamic new dimension to Esperance Anglican Community School, both physically and in the opportunities it provides. It is already proving to be a valued asset and will continue to serve the School community for many years to come.
