A highlight of the recent Anglican Schools Australia Conference in Perth was the Conference Eucharist held in St George’s Cathedral on the evening of Friday 31 July. It was especially notable from an AngliSchools perspective as we had the privilege of underpinning the service with our local knowledge and experience.
The liturgical text that had been commissioned for the AngliSchools 40th Anniversary Eucharist was reprised, connecting well with the conference theme of Grace-full Hospitality: Anglican Schools as Expressions of God’s Generosity. The Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO DD, Archbishop of Perth and Metropolitan of Western Australia, presided and The Right Reverend Dr Mark Short, Bishop of Canberra Goulburn and Primate of Australia, preached.
The music was directed by Mr Alessandro Pittorino, AngliSchools Leader of Performing Arts. The musicians included staff and students from Frederick Irwin Anglican School, John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School, John Wollaston Anglican Community School, St James Anglican School, St Mark’s Anglican Community School, and Swan Valley Anglican Community School. The Combined Choir of 160 students drawn from these schools leading the singing of the Christ Church Mass made for a beautiful Choral Eucharist. It was such a joy to be a part of it.
